Dinar Earthquake, Interferogram and interpretation
InSAR fringe information extracted and colour-coded to show differing intensities of ground disturbance
'Raw' differential interferogram showing approximately 20 fringes (20 x 28mm = line of sight displacement)
Landsat TM image as backdrop
Case study details
Main image: Contours of displacement superimposed on a Landsat TM image
Inset: Differential interferogram
SAR dates: 13-Aug-95 and 01-Jan-96
Separation: 4.5 months
Comments

The image shows displacement contours derived from the differential interferogram (inset) for the Dinar Earthquake, Turkey (01-Oct-95, magnitude 6.1) over Landsat TM bands 7-4-2 R-G-B background. The red, yellow and green fringe regions indicate respectively high, medium and low displacement intensity as interpreted from the interferogram.

The town of Dinar is located some 3km east of the high intensity displacement region. The earthquake caused extensive damage to the town and killed 92 people. A maximum line-of-sight displacement of the order of 560mm was measured using interferometry.
