Rationale
To coincide with Ireland’s Porcupine Basin 2007 licencing
block bid round, NPA are releasing their offshore SAR seep
study, now in fully GIS compatible formats (fig 1). According
to oil consultants Hannon & Westwood, this basin has up
to 160 undrilled structures. In 2005, NPA substantially upgraded
its coverage of this basin by including all available compliant
data available in archive to produce a multi-coverage study.
Highlights of Porcupine
Study
- Current coverage provides near complete double coverage
with triple in places.
- 222 slicks mapped.
- Over 30 higher confidence seepage slicks plus a large
number (185) of lower confidence rank 4 slicks indicating
presence of oil petroleum systems in certain basins.
- Slick density and slick repeat data.
- Fully digital data available in modular USID format for
large or small areas.
- Opportunity for further interpretation of NPA scenes,
of which 157 have been identified as optimum for seepage
detection.
