NPA have extensive
experience in both the on- and offshore Caspian region. In
the onshore this ranges from our onshore Circum-Caspian Study
in collaboration with Blackbourn Geoconsulting to Licence Studies.
Additionally, we have carried out several Environmental Inventories
and Coastline Mapping projects. In the offshore NPA have completed
a study of the entire South Caspian and are in the process
of completing a North Caspian Study.
The study draws on NPA’s ‘Basin Tectonics of the
C.I.S.’ study as well as detailed satellite projects
carried out in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan and
recent interpretations of the North Arabian Plate and the Zagros
Mountains. Blackbourn Geoconsulting specialise in sedimentology
and geoscience studies of the former Soviet Union and have
an extensive database of geological publications, fields and
well information on the Caspian region.
The study provides an
important basis for evaluations and decision making in
both the on- and offshore areas and also
the framework
on which to overlay the unique seepage distribution patterns
revealed by NPA’s satellite radar studies of the
sea surface. The activity and scout information maps
and database
will be kept updated periodically by Blackbourn Geoconsulting.
Detailed
Satellite imagery interpretation: of 64 Landsat scenes
produced as; 8 sheets at 1:500,000 scale, 2 sheets
at 1:1m. scale and 1 sheet at 1:2m. scale. The geological
interpretations were made on original prints at 1:250,000
scale but are presented as digitally compiled overlays
as well as composite maps at 1:1m. and 1:2m. scale. The
interpretations
integrate Russian and Iranian stratigraphic data to map
the various lithologies present.
Geological Interpretation
The most accurate and up-to-date
Structural Domain map available. Derived from Russian offshore
seismic, NPA’s
highly detailed satellite derived gravity, regional Russian
airborne
magnetics and the detailed interpretation of the onshore
satellite imagery, this map provides the explorationist
with on-offshore data otherwise not available to western
oil companies.
The map is presented at 1:1m scale (2 sheets) and 1:2m
(1 sheet).
Geophysical compilation. The onshore aeromagnetics
and offshore satellite gravity are presented in one sheet
at 1:2m. Scale
Report. A concise report (67 pages) detailing
the hydrocarbon prospectivity of each of the hydrocarbon
provinces
of the Caspian.
Free viewing software. As well as
all of the hardcopy products listed NPA will supply the
data in the form
of a fully
interactive GIS on CD, enabling the explorationist
to browse the several
different layers that comprise the study, visualising
and cross-referencing them as required.
NPA have a range
of Radarsat and ERS images for the entire South Caspian. We
have also completed a North Caspian seepage study which now
provides complete coverage of the Caspian Sea. The seep detection
studies are available on an area by area basis to individual
company’s requests. As shown in the inset figure, many
large-scale repeating seeps have been mapped, many in undrilled
deep-water areas of Azerbaijan and Iran. Each study contains:
Seepage detection using the most recent ERS and Radarsat
data.
Integration of image interpretation with surface geology
and Free Air Gravity.
Seepage repeatability study.
ArcView CD of all data inputs with all major seeps hot-linked
to the imagery.
